Many people live longer and enjoy better health after improved health care during the last century. The result, however, is a sharp increase in older people living in the world. Dementia is associated with older people, who are generally less able to look after themselves. Hence the importance of providing care cannot be underestimated, as a new Dementia person reported every 3.2 seconds worldwide. The estimated cost of Dementia is set to increase to US $ 1 Trillion by 2018. What is alarming is that 40% of the costs relate to unpaid care provided by family and others, while another 40% relate to community and residential care. Only 20% represent medical care costs.
